While playing the base game in Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun, I was able to regroup with some players. However, jumping into the expansion too soon meant there were long stretches where I had to slay beasts on my own. Truth be told, after seeing the same creatures over and over again, it really pissed me off. Fortunately, the expansion has a new original system that should help you when soloing. here is our Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun guide to help you with follow-up quests and support investigations with your companions.
To note: We will have a Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun guides and feature hub coming soon, so stay tuned.
Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun – Guide to Follower Quests, Support Surveys and Companions
Subscriber quests and support surveys in Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun unlock once you reach Elgado Outpost. Specifically, you’ll need to defeat Thunder Serpent Narwa in the base game’s campaign and then complete a mission to defeat the Daimyo Hermitaur. This leads to a cutscene where you’re introduced to Knight Fiorayne, followed by a trip to the new continent where you’ll meet the rest of Elgado’s inhabitants. Shortly after, we tell you about this new system.
This lets you bring along AI-controlled companions during hunts. They will use items, cast weapon skills, and even mount monsters if downed. This solo feature is a decent way to have some form of assistance outside of your Palico and Palamute. In a way, you’ll still need backup, and maybe even random banter, if you don’t want to focus too much on the multiplayer experience.
To note: Companions that are downed during a mission do not count against your fail/retry limit.
Support surveys in Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun allow you to choose from a group of available companions, and you are allowed to bring up to two by default. You can even change their weapon types, although the selection is quite limited. From there, you will eliminate the creatures needed for the objective.
To note: When you first discover this system, only Fiorayne and Luchika are available as companions. You can unlock Luchika by talking to her when she has the purple chat box. The rest become available through follower quests.
Follower quests are still regular hunts, except they are given to you by an important NPC. You’ll know there’s one that can be taken on if you see a character with a purple dialog box. Alternatively, a courier in Elgado will have a purple dialog on their head if the character in question is in Kamura Village. After talking to them, talk to Chichae and choose the mission you want to handle.
As mentioned earlier, only Fiorayne and Luchika can join you initially. Still, more quests will appear as you continue to increase your Master Rank. Additionally, there are cases where you need to complete multiple follower quests before that person becomes part of the pick pool in support surveys. Anyway, here are the others Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun companions who can help you on your journey:
- Arena Master Arlow
- Master Utsushi
- Elder Fugen
Footnote 1: Completing follower quests also nets you Royal Order type weapons.
Footnote 2: Fiorayne will join you for certain boss hunts, such as Garangolm, Lunagaron, and Malzeno, as they are tied to the storyline of the campaign.
Monster Hunter Rise: Dawn of the Sun is available through Steam.
