Kochi: The field operations division of the National Statistics Office (ONS) will conduct three major household surveys in Ernakulam this month. This is part of the on-going field investigations in Kerala in the security zones notified by the state administration adhering to the Covid-19 protocol.
The office, reporting to the Ministry of Statistics, through its officials, seeks accurate and timely data collection to produce strong and reliable statistics which are used by different agencies for the nation’s development.
Among the three surveys are the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) and the Urban-Based Survey (UFS).
PLFS aims to measure the dynamics of labor market participation and employment status would be actively pursued in the grama panchayat neighborhoods of Elanji, Kavalangadu, Valokam, Edavanakkad and Kizhakkambalam in the rural sector of the district and Alangad, Mattoor, Chendamangalam, Elankunnupuzha, Eramallur, Corporation of Kochi, Kothamangalam and Maradu in the urban areas of the district.
ASUSE will seek to summarize the economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated non-farm establishments in manufacturing, commerce and other services.
The ASUSE survey will be conducted in the Grama Panchayat neighborhoods of Karukutty in the rural sector and Kochi Corporation, Eloor, Kalamassery, Vengola and Kedamangalam in the urban sector. Meanwhile, UFS is achieved through satellite mapping using a mobile app. Society and urban areas of Perumbavoor would be covered this month.
